One giant leap for live sound. Introducing THE HK AUDIO LUNAR
There is a specific problem with professional PA speakers at this price point: they either sound great and take forever to set up, or they are quick to deploy and you can hear the compromises. HK Audio has been working on an answer to that for a while. The LUNAR series, launching today alongside the PORTABLE SUB, is that answer.
Three active full-range loudspeakers. Two active subwoofers. One system concept. And a level of integration between the two product families that is not always a given in this segment.
The LUNAR: what it is and who it is for
The LUNAR comes in three sizes: the LUNAR 110 XA (10"), the LUNAR 112 XA (12") and the LUNAR 115 XA (15"). All three are active two-way loudspeakers with a 32-bit DSP running an active FIR filter. That last part matters: FIR filtering preserves phase linearity across the frequency spectrum in a way that conventional crossovers do not. In practice it means a speaker that sounds coherent at every volume level, not just the one it was tuned for in a lab.
The amplifier section is a fanless Class-D bi-amp with 1,200 W peak output. No fan noise is genuinely useful, not just in quiet venues but on stage too, where background hiss accumulates from every source in the room.
"Maximum volume. No fan noise. No compromises."
Four onboard presets sit on the rear panel: Music for standard full-range use, Ext. Sub for when a subwoofer is in the chain, Monitor for floor monitor use at the built-in 33° tilt angle, and Voice for speech reinforcement. Each is a physical switch, not a menu. For a touring musician or a rental technician setting up on a deadline, that is the kind of detail that makes a real difference.
Connectivity covers the essentials: a combined XLR/TRS input with Mic/Line switching, an XLR thru, a Mix Out that sums the analogue input and the Bluetooth stream, and Bluetooth 5.4 with True Wireless Stereo for wireless stereo pairing of two units. For permanent installations, four M8 rigging points and U-bracket mounting points allow ceiling mounting in both orientations. The DuoTilt flange adds 3° or 7° of tilt on a standard speaker pole.
The PORTABLE SUB: more than an add-on
The PORTABLE SUB is where the system concept becomes clear. Both models carry a dedicated LUNAR preset that automatically aligns the crossover, level and EQ to the LUNAR in use. Select the preset, connect the cable, and the system is calibrated. That is a meaningful thing to be able to offer, and it is not something every manufacturer gets right even when they try.
Beyond the LUNAR integration, the PORTABLE SUB also carries presets for SONAR and POLAR MK2, plus a general LPF 100 Hz preset for use with tops from other manufacturers. A fanless 1,400 W Class-D amp delivers up to 131 dB peak SPL on the 118 A model, which reaches down to 31 Hz. The built-in stereo preamp allows a full 2.1 setup from a single subwoofer, routing the stereo signal out to two tops directly.
System configurations
The two series are designed to scale. A minimal setup is a single LUNAR 112 XA as a standalone full-range speaker. Step one up and you have a 2.1 system: two LUNAR 110 XA units and a PORTABLE SUB 115 A. The classic configuration for DJ and band work is two LUNAR 112 XA with two PORTABLE SUB 118 A. At the top end, two LUNAR 115 XA with four PORTABLE SUB 118 A covers large events and demanding productions.
Built in Germany, backed by five years
Both series are manufactured at HK Audio's St. Wendel facility under ISO 9001:2015 quality controls. MDF cabinets, acrylic enamel finish, steel front grilles. HK Audio backs both series with a five-year manufacturer warranty after registration.
The LUNAR series and PORTABLE SUB are available now through authorised HK Audio dealers.
